It guarantees a perfect, non-visible transition from the new to the old layer of clear coat.
In addition, Yellow Film is also used for the removal of imperfections (dust and runners). The flexible film back contributes to the aggressiveness of the disc.
It also has another advantage. When sanding with a paper disc, the grains will (partly) disappear into the paperback. In contrast to that, the grains of the (flexible) film disc will stay on the film back. As a result, the grains maintain their sanding ability much longer and therefore a film disc is more durable than a paper disc.
Yellow Film also has a special coating that prevents heat development and burn marks to occur on the disc. Consequently, the risk of damaging or sanding through the clear coat will be minimised.
In addition, the coating prevents the disc from clogging, which increases the lifetime of the disc considerably. Remark: When you start with sanding, it takes a couple of seconds before the disc actually starts to sand.
